Steelhead Fly Fishing
Steelhead fly fishing can be the ultimate fly fishing challenge. Between November and March in the Pacific Northwest waters, Steelhead are primarily focused on mating rather than eating. This makes them much harder to catch because they are single-mindedly geared towards mating, with little consideration for food. But this makes catching one of these wily beasts all the more rewarding.
Wild Steelhead are indigenous to the coastal rivers of Northwest Washington's Olympic Peninsula. These regions comprise the highest percentage of the largest Steelhead in the country. Summer run Steelhead average 6-10lbs less than their winter runs which easily hit the 15-20lbs mark. Some have even been known to exceed the 25-30lbs mark!
While Steelhead may not be suitable for the beginner fly fishing experience, the seasoned veteran will find this Fly Fishing Vacation a fly fishing adventure.
